Elite Aspirations – University Preparation
This week, our Year 12 Elite Aspirations students took part in two valuable activities designed to support them in preparing for competitive university applications.
On Thursday, students considering applications to Oxford, Cambridge or Medicine received a personal statement support and development session from a University of Oxford admissions tutor. During the session, students received expert guidance on developing strong personal statements, refining their ideas, and showcasing their extracurricular activities to ensure their applications are as competitive as possible. Building on this experience, students will take part in an admissions test preparation session in July, providing further support as they progress through the application process.
In addition, on Tuesday the students also visited South Hampstead High School. There, they participated in a university interview workshop. Working with academics and their peers, students developed problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills designed to prepare them for academic interviews.
This event marked the first stage of a three-part university interview support programme. The remaining two sessions will take place in November, and students are looking forward to continuing their preparation. Reflecting on the experience, one Year 12 student commented that although the problem-solving activities were challenging, they were highly beneficial for building confidence, meeting students from a wide range of backgrounds, and developing the skills needed to succeed in university interviews.
