Business
In Business, we aim for all pupils to explore their entrepreneurial characteristics and expand their knowledge of setting up and running a business by developing their problem solving, critical thinking and commercial awareness skills.
Through the study of GCSE and A Level Business, pupils will develop a strong understanding of how organisations operate within local, national, and global markets.
They will explore key concepts such as marketing, finance, operations, and human resources, applying their knowledge to real-world business scenarios.
Pupils will build critical thinking and decision-making skills by analysing data, evaluating business strategies and considering the impact of external factors on performance. A range of case studies and practical activities will support their ability to construct well-reasoned arguments, preparing them for further study and the dynamic world of work.

Skills
At GCSE level, students build a strong foundation in understanding how businesses operate. They develop skills in basic financial analysis, interpreting data, problem-solving, and decision-making. They also improve their communication skills by explaining business concepts clearly and evaluating different business strategies. Teamwork, time management, and an awareness of real-world economic issues are also strengthened.
At A Level, these skills are developed further and in greater depth. Students enhance their analytical and critical thinking skills by assessing complex business scenarios, interpreting financial statements, and evaluating strategic decisions. They learn to construct well-supported arguments, write structured essays, and apply theory to real-life case studies. A Level Business also develops quantitative skills, research abilities, commercial awareness, and strategic thinking — all of which are valuable for university study and future careers in business, management, finance, marketing, and entrepreneurship.
Overall, studying Business at GCSE and A Level equips students with transferable skills such as analysis, evaluation, communication, decision-making, and commercial awareness that are highly valued in higher education and the workplace.
Progression Route
Students who study GCSE Business can progress to a range of further study options. Many choose to continue with A Level Business, where they explore business concepts in greater depth. Others may move into related Level 3 qualifications such as T level Business. GCSE Business also supports progression into apprenticeships in areas such as retail, administration, marketing, and customer service.
After completing A Level Business, students have several progression routes. Many go on to study business-related degrees at university, including Business Management, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Human Resource Management, or International Business. It also provides a strong foundation for higher apprenticeships or degree apprenticeships in areas such as management, banking, consultancy, and entrepreneurship. Some students choose to enter employment directly, using the analytical, financial, and commercial skills developed during the course.
Overall, GCSE and A Level Business open pathways into further education, higher education, apprenticeships, and a wide range of careers in the public and private sectors.
