Together We Create: Art

During arts week, each house is allocated to a different arts subject area: art, drama, textiles, music, food and DT. The children spend time with pupils in their house from across the year groups and enjoy having time to learn new skills and express themselves through creativity.

The house who spent these days with art showcased some incredible talent and passion. Inspired by the contemporary artist Bob and Roberta Smith, our young creatives researched the powerful role of art in activism. They channeled their inner change-makers to design and construct vibrant protest placards, with the vast majority focusing on the urgent theme of climate change. With the completed works, we held a protest march around the school grounds, creating something of a moving gallery!

The artistic exploration didn’t stop in the classroom. Pupils took their learning into the real world, embarking on an exciting excursion to East London. They explored The Line, London’s first dedicated public art walk, discovering world-class sculptures and installations in the open air. The memorable day culminated in a breathtaking trip on the cable car, offering everyone a spectacular, bird’s-eye view of the city’s skyline.

We are incredibly proud of how thoughtfully our pupils engaged with contemporary artistic concepts and how well they behaved on the excursion.
