Together We Create: DT
Trenchard spent the Together We Create days with DT, designing, building and then racing buggies.
Pupils researched existing models of cars, from highly sophisticated F1 vehicles to more humble soapboxes, and gave particular consideration to aerodynamics. The young designers learnt key design and technology skills like using computer-aided design (CAD) and how to solder. While some of the buggies were functional and minimalistic, others showed artistic flair with playful adornments that made their buggies stand out.
The races in the sports hall were so much fun as teams willed their machines to travel in straight lines through tunnels and over ramps. The pitstop, manned by capable technicians and problem-solvers, made vital repairs so that damaged buggies lived to race another day! Mr Giles was the first person to complete the buggy course…well, almost! Maybe next year!
Other pupils in DT focused their attention on designing bespoke items of jewellery and created some really unique pieces.
Overall, we learnt some key skills and we had lots of fun – it was the perfect combination!
