D of E Skills Day
On 21st September, 34 Year 9s completed a Duke of Edinburgh Award (D of E) Skills Day at Tolmers Scout Campsite.
Pupils travelled by train (learning how to buy their own tickets) before arriving at a sunny campsite where they participated in various teambuilding challenges. The challenges were a brilliant way of testing the young people’s communication and problem solving skills.
Participants then learnt how to use a camping stove safely when they cooked their own lunch or made hot chocolate on a trangia stove. They also learnt how to put up a tent.
Special thanks goes to the Year 12 students who gave up their free time on a Saturday to share their own D of E skills with younger peers.
All of the skills from the successful training day will be put to good use on the two day expedition in spring 2025.
