Black History Month
There has been lots happening in our school this month for Black History Month.
In Learning Groups and assemblies we’ve been learning about a number of Black men and women who have made a difference, such as Mary Seacole, Floyd Steadman, and the patron of one of the school houses, Maggie Alphonsi.
After the popularity of last year’s poetry competition we ran another competition, this year on the theme ‘saluting our sisters’. We look forward to announcing the winners shortly.
On the final afternoon before the half term break the children will be off timetable. They will learn about the political activist Claudia Jones and create feather mannequins. Young people from years 10-12 with a particular interest in creative writing will attend a workshop in the library with author Joyce Efia Harmer.
After school we are holding a carnival for members of our local community. There will be art and poetry exhibitions as well as stands for various countries represented in our school. There will be music, food and some special guests from the Saracens rugby and netball teams.
