Author Visit – Frances Hardinge
What an exciting start the Year 7s have had to their first term at Saracens! From paired reading sessions to poetry competitions, they’ve embarked on a fantastic literary journey with plenty of events to look forward to. And what better way to start than getting the chance to meet a famous author in person!
On Wednesday 4th October award-winning children’s author, Frances Hardinge, visited our school and led an interactive assembly about her books and how she became interested in writing gothic fantasty fiction. In keeping with the spooky spirit of Halloween, her talk was filled with marvellous tales of ghosts, weird creatures, haunted houses, and the magic of the unknown.
Pupils were delighted to be able to ask her questions such as when she wrote her very first story and whether or not she actually believed in ghosts and vampires. Her advice to aspiring young writers was to ‘channel their irrational fears’ and to ‘believe in the weirdness of their imagination.’
To add to the excitement, pupils were also able to meet her in person in the library during lunch time and buy exclusive signed copies of her books, The Island of Whispers and Twilight Robbery, at discounted prices.
This is just the start to a spectacular year ahead with plenty more literary events to come!
