Ready, Steady, BAKE!
The spring term saw the launch of The Great Saracens High Bake Off (GSHBO).
After applications and interviews in the autumn term, the competition got underway with nine contestants.
In the first round contestants baked a batch of cupcakes, showcasing both baking and decorating skills
In the quarter finals the six remaining bakers demonstrated that they could follow a recipe by baking a traditional Victoria sponge. The standard was high and the judges deliberated over which four bakers had impressed the most. One lucky baker was the first recipient of “Ekwebelem handshake” in recognition of exceptional baking.
Bread was the challenge in the semi final as four bakers mixed and kneaded for a place in the first ever GSHBO final.
Leyla and Bella went head-to-head in the final, pulling out all of the stops for their spring-themed showstoppers. These spectacular bakes made the judges’ job extremely difficult. Congratulations to Leyla in Year 7 for winning the inagural GSHBO with her delightful ‘Scene in a Spring Garden.’ In addition to the honour of winning Leyla also left with a hamper of baking goodies to support her development as a baker.
We encourage pupils to start practicing baking at home in preparation for next year’s Great Saracens High Bake Off! (applications open in January 2026).
