D of E Gold
Congratulations to our sixth form adventurers for completing their four-night D of E Gold expedition in the Brecon Beacons. A couple of the successful explorers reflected on their experience:
“During our Gold DofE expedition, we went to the Brecon Beacons in Wales for a week. For the 4 days during which we were being assessed, we used maps and compasses to navigate from campsite to campsite. We really enjoyed ourselves, and the incredible views which surrounded us whilst we walked made it even better. One of the downsides were the blisters which inevitably made an appearance, however a few blister plasters soon solved that issue! The whole experience was extremely fun and the Domino’s Pizza which we had on the last night was a wonderful reward!”

“There were no other strong feelings than pride and accomplishment when I was told we passed our Gold expedition! I found it to be the most memorable, enjoyable, yet physically demanding Duke of Edinburgh experience I have ever had. Pushing aside the countless times we as a team ‘purposefully’ detoured into forests…this expedition was undoubtedly the most rewarding; thanks to Miss Edwards as well as the amazing teachers who volunteered their time to support us, it was a guaranteed success!”

All that remains is for the students to finish the volunteering, skill and physical sections of the award as well as completing a residential of their own choosing, either in this country or overseas.
Well done everyone. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a highly regarded scheme and we’re delighted that each level (bronze, silver and gold) is so popular among our pupils and students.
