Barnet Active Creative Engaging Holidays are running sessions for children aged 4-16 over the Easter break. If you have been sent an email and text from the school you are eligible to book sessions for your child; some are even happening at Saracens High School!

The price of lunch at school is increasing after the Easter break from £2.35 to £2.50. We regret that this puts families under financial pressure but the increased cost of ingredients and utility bills means we have no choice.
Please be assured that the food prepared is fresh, nutritious and tasty and there is always plenty for pupils who need bigger portions. Our kitchen team was also recently awarded the Bronze Award for healthy schools in London.

Our 10 Silver D of E participants are committed to their training to ensure they’re ready to pass their expeditions in May and June. We have planned the practice expedition to the Ashdown Forest and the assessed expedition to the New Forest. The teams will be planning their group hikes and will need to be prepared for 3 days walking and 2 nights camping.
The training days have included shelter building, safe fire starting, compass work, orienteering and team building. These are all vital skills to enable each group to be successful in their Silver D of E award.
Any donations of tents or walking boots greatly received.

Our Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils all became engineers this week and undertook the task of building a bridge as part of the national Science Week celebrations. The challenge was to work in teams to design and build a 50cm long bridge strong enough to hold 500g.
Some pupils also went on an educational visit to the Science Museum and particularly enjoyed the Science Fiction exhibit.

At the beginning of March pupils from years 7, 8, 9 and 10 enjoyed a visit from “Birdman.” Alan Ames, aka “Birdman,” brought with him a Harris’s hawk, a Barbary falcon, a Bald eagle and a Barn owl. For most of the pupils, that was the first time they had seen such wonderful creatures up close. Some of them were even lucky enough to hold them at the end of the session.
During the show pupils learnt about the evolution of birds and their adaptations as perfect predators. Alan talked about natural sustainability and the impact of human activity on the environment. The most exciting part, however, was seeing the birds flying just above our heads!
