British Science Week
Across the week, pupils explored the theme of Curiosity through assemblies, competitions, practical investigations and whole school activities. Highlights included:
Practical investigations (Chemistry & Physics)
- Key Stage 3 pupils took part in a forensic science investigation, identifying mystery powders to solve a crime scene challenge
- Key Stage 4 pupils designed and tested balloon-powered cars, applying their knowledge of forces and motion in a practical engineering challenge
Biology in Action
Whole School Participation
- The British Science Week poster competition encouraged pupils to explore curiosity creatively, with prizes given for the best creations
- Learning groups created science-themed decorations which are now displayed around the school
- The Curiosity Hunt, a science treasure hunt, challenged pupils to solve clues hidden across the school
- Pupils were encouraged to take part in the Young Science Writer Award 2026, organised by the Association of British Science Writers, giving young people the chance to showcase their science communication skills and compete for a £1,000 first prize
Overall, it’s been a wonderful opportunity for pupils to explore scientific thinking, creativity and problem-solving beyond the classroom.
