World Book Day
We celebrated World Book Day last week with assorted activities in school and with a visit to The London Library. Award-winning author Tia Fisher visited on Friday and gave an inspiring assembly to Year 9 about her powerful book, Crossing the Line, on the importance of seeking safety and asking for help. She then gave a PSHCE class to a Year 8 class on the theme of her book, county lines.
On Thursday, pupils began each class hearing an extract from a book selected specifically for that subject and were able to take part in activities in the library during break and lunchtime, including a treasure hunt and book quiz. During afternoon learning group there was a house competition where pupils had to guess the member of staff based on the title of their fictional biography, which got very lively! Also on Thursday, Year 7 participated in a poetry workshop by the organisation Never Such Innocence, exploring war poetry and writing poems of their own.
On Tuesday, school Library Monitors and members of the Library Champions club enjoyed a visit to The London Library in central London where they learnt all about the library’s extraordinary history and collection of books.
