Message From The Principal
In March we celebrated Futures Month. Although ‘Futures’ has a focus all year round, it has a particular focus in March, and this year in addition to work of subject teams highlighting future career pathways linked to their subjects, you can read about a number of other activities that have taken place in this newsletter.
These included visits to Oxford University, the Royal Free Careers Day and a UCAS event for our Sixth Form students. We have also hosted visits from our MP, a speaker from City St George’s University, and Arkive Headcare (who are one of the partners of the Saracens Womens’ Rugby team), and we had a very memorable Making Memories ‘Stock Market Trading Day’ for Year 10. Coming to Saracens High School isn’t just about excellent academic attainment, it is also about broadening our understanding of opportunities that could come later in life.
Speaking of excellent academic attainment, we will be entering the exam season as soon as we come back after the Easter break, with Health and Social Care, Drama, Art, and Language speaking exams all happening before the written exams start at the beginning of May.
The strong link between attendance and attainment is well known and discussed, but less so is the link between punctuality and attainment. We have found over the last few years that those who are consistently on time to school and lessons do around two grades better than those who are frequently late. This links directly to our value of Discipline. Pupils often ask how arriving two minutes late to school each day can impact their results, but the evidence is in the data – it does, and we believe it is because pupils who live the value of discipline arrive on time to school and lessons. They are also disciplined in making sure they have the right equipment, and how they approach their home work and their revision, which links to the value of Hard Work. For pupils and students approaching their exams, remember to work hard this holiday and look forward to the long summer holiday.
Finally, a huge thank you to the staff who will be working hard this break, taking the pupils on the Duke of Edinburgh expedition, and those leading the ski trip to Italy, and those who are running revision sessions in the school for Year 11s and 13s.
I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable break.
