Year 11 and the British Army
By Alae A, Year 11
Last Thursday, Year 11 had our first Making Memories day where the army came into school and planned loads of different activities for us.
The day was split into three different parts. One of the best things was that we actually got to choose who we wanted to be in our groups this year. For the first two periods, we did different activities with the army that made us think outside the box and use our minds. One of the most popular puzzles was to get from one point to another using only 3 planks. We also had to work together as a team which was actually really fun because we got to see how well we worked together.
After that, we had our normal break and then we did table tennis with a a pro Paralympic table tennis player. It was really cool getting to play with someone who actually does it professionally and seeing how good he was. We had a competition between our groups and the winners got extra house points, which definitely made people want to win. But honestly, if you really think about it we are all winners because everyone got involved and had a splendid time. In the last 15 minutes we played some mini games, everybody wanted to grasp onto their honour beause it was THAT serious!
After lunch, we went to the astro and did more activities that tested our athletic abilities. We had to work together and push ourselves, and some of the activities were harder than they looked. For example, there was one with cones and evrybody had to stand at a cone and recieve the ball from the person in front of them. HOWEVER, there were certain conditions you had to match. One perosn had to catch the ball with a leg, and one had to catch it with one hand, etc.
Overall, it was a really lovely day and it was nice being able to spend time with our friends outside of normal lessons. We got to see how we were as a team, try things we don’t normally do and just have fun together. I think everyone really enjoyed the day and it’s definitely something we’ll remember from Year 11. Thank you so much for organising such a productive day!
