Rimla House
Rimla House had a particularly hands-on week with the DT department during Together We Create. Here’s what they got up to:
- Buggy Making: Pupils selected which laser cut boards designed and made in DT would work best for their buggies. They chose wheel sizes and soldered their buggies together, including a batter, motor and fan. When the buggies and courses were assembled, the buggies were put to the test in races!
- Bug House Building: The children used hand tools common in the home (drills, screwdrivers, saws, rulers etc) to make bug houses that we hope to put around our school grounds.
- Tower Build Competition: Pupils worked in groups to create towers out of paper, nuts and bolts
- Jewellery Designing: The pupils made beautiful and varied pieces of jewellery by silver wire wrapping semi-precious stones.
- Designing for a Client: Our young designers created mood boards and 3D mock-ups of rooms using Tinkercad
- Sports Wheelchairs: We were honoured to receive a visit from Saracens Wheelchair Rugby Club who talked to us about how wheelchairs are modified for sports, including impact sports like wheelchair rugby.
- V&A Museum: We visited the iconic V&A Museum in central London. The children saw an enormous range of collections including current designs that are in response to situations in our world, such as designs for semi-permanent shelters used in disaster relief, blades for disabled athletes and furniture made from recycled plastic.
Pupils in Rimla House were engaged in our varied programme and we were really impressed with the work they produced.
