Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition
Congratulations to our adventurers from year 10 and year 12 who all passed their assessed expedition for the silver Duke of Edinburgh award.
The expedition got off to a challenging start with a gale and having to relocating tents. We sheltered from the torrential downpour and awoke to the welcome sight of clear skies and sunshine.
Day one of walking took us past a model yacht lake where we saw large carp, as well as ponies in nearby fields. We don’t allow phones on D of E so that night we listened to the cheers from other campers watching the England match!
A lovely sunny evening was spent cooking and demonstrating the requirements of safe camp craft. Staff entertained themselves with a well deserved Chinese takeaway and watching the dogs’ washing station!
The year 10 team set off early on the final day as both groups walked north to the Canadian war memorial that was the finish line.
A memorable and successful weekend with thanks to the following: the finance team for booking campsites; site team for packing minibuses; Ms Wilson and Mr Babbington for supporting the practice and assessed expeditions; assessor Josh Taylor and volunteer Mandy Gordon; and also Miss Nelson for accompanying the trip.
