Climate Change Theatre
Year 8 were welcomed back from the half term break with an impactful play about climate change by Geologise Theatre Group.
The play was an engaging way to learn about the causes and impact of greenhouse gases on us and the environment.
After the play a group of pupils from years 7 and 8 benefitted from a workshop with two PhD scholars. The marine biologist and ecologist shared their research ideas and helped the pupils think how the different fields of science can all have a positive impact on climate change.
The children now know more about the roles of marine biologists and ecologists.
Marine Biologists:
Help combat climate change by studying the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems, advocating for the protection of critical habitats like coral reefs and mangrove forests, researching ways to restore damaged ecosystems, monitoring marine populations, and informing policy decisions regarding sustainable fisheries and ocean conservation.
Ecologists:
Help combat climate change by studying the impacts of climate change on ecosystems, identifying vulnerable species and habitats, predicting future changes, and proposing mitigation strategies like habitat restoration, managing carbon sinks, and creating wildlife corridors to enable species migration, thus aiding adaptation to a changing environment.
Theatre can be a powerful way to reinforce classroom learning and we’re grateful to our teachers for arranging visits from companies like Geologise Theatre Group.
