Incredible Year for Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award is an extremely popular enrichment activity at Saracens High School.
On the penultimate day of term we were pleased to welcome back to school the students who have just completed their assessed gold award expedition in the Lake District. This is no mean feat and we’re extremely proud of their dedication, perseverance and resilience.
D of E participants are required to engage in three sections: learning a new skill; physical activity; and volunteering. The young adventurers must also plan and complete an expedition that includes camping and, therefore, camp craft: 1 night for bronze; 2 nights for silver; and 3 nights for gold.
Thanks to our incredible experts, Ms Edwards and Ms Lindsey, we are unique in being able to offer bronze, silver and gold awards with our in-house teams.
The D of E is highly regarded by universities and employers as it equips young people with valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, problem-solving and resilience.
This year, through their D of E activities, Saracens pupils collectively volunteered over 1,000 hours, generating a social value of more than £6000!
Congratulations to the two winners of this year’s Outstanding Achievement in D of E award, Adam and Freddie, who have successfully completed all three levels of the award. They were instrumental in supporting the award’s operations, including organizing equipment, training younger groups, and assisting on expeditions.
The D of E Award continues to be a fantastic opportunity for pupils at Saracens High School to develop essential life skills and contribute to their community.
