Remembrance Day
On 11th November our entire school community gathered for a 2 minute silence to remember those who have given their lives in past wars to protect our freedom. We also reflected on those currently suffering conflicts around the world, both as service personnel and as civilians.
Throughout the week we learnt about what the different poppies represent:
- Red poppy: Memorial to World War I and following conflicts
- Black poppy: To remember the contributions of black, African and Caribbean communities to the war effort
- White poppy: To remember those who died in conflict, with a focus on an end to war
- Purple poppy: To remember animal victims of war
Pupils got behind the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal and raised over £200 selling poppies around the school.
